The “Toys for Tickets” campaign allows citizens to pay for parking violations with a toy in lieu of money in several Canadian cities. The donations are given to kids in a toy drive so that every child has a gift to open during the holiday season. Motorists must purchase a new and unopened toy that is of equal or greater value of the parking ticket and have to provide a receipt for proof. This unique approach to law enforcement, which has been an annual occurrence since 2005, places emphasis on giving back to the community and has garnered significant support from participating cities.
