A couple in York, England, is helping young people experiencing homelessness find stability and a sense of belonging by opening their home to those in need. Mike and Beth Edwards have spent the past four years working with the Safe and Sound Homes initiative, which provides emergency accommodations and long-term housing to vulnerable youth. The couple has welcomed five young people into their home, including 22-year-old Ava, who became homeless following a relationship breakdown. After spending time in hostels and feeling lost in the system, Ava says living with the Edwards family has given her a sense of safety, security, and friendship. Beyond providing a place to stay, the couple shares meals with their guests and helps them develop practical life skills, from budgeting and cooking to preparing for job interviews. With 19 host families currently participating in the program, Safe and Sound Homes is helping young people rebuild their confidence, gain independence, and move toward a more stable future.
