Noel Maguire, a New York City doorman of 42 years, does much more than greeting neighbors and assisting building visitors. After noticing an increase in the homeless population from his post outside an Upper East Side residence, Maguire launched the Ellen Maguire Foundation, named for his mother. Every week, Maguire and a team of volunteers give out essential items, clothing, and food to those in need. He never turns anyone away and never misses a volunteer day— whether it’s rain or shine, sweltering heat or freezing temperatures. Maguire also keeps items readily available in his car in case he sees someone in need of support while he’s on the job. His consistent commitment has provided practical assistance to the city’s most vulnerable individuals and has inspired those in his community to give back and support those around them.Â
