A rescue dog named Aloka has captured hearts by joining and leading a group of 19 Buddhist monks on a peaceful 2,300-mile walk across the United States to promote compassion, nonviolence, and unity. Aloka, an Indian Pariah dog, was found by the monks while on a peace walk in India and has stayed by their side ever since. Along their journey from Fort Worth, Texas to Washington, DC, Aloka has served as a bridge between the monks and the communities they visit. The experience has been documented on social media, and strangers from around the world have been touched by Aloka’s caring nature in the videos. The friendly pop has encountered some hardships on the journey, including a minor car accident and a virus. When the monks loaded him onto a truck to give him a break from walking, Aloka jumped right out and rejoined his family, never letting his injuries get in the way of their mission. Aloka has become an unexpected hero in their goal of spreading hope and goodwill, and the monks of Huong Dao Vipassana Bhavana hope he joins all their journeys to come.Â
