Mountain Goat-Inspired Robot

Researchers and engineers at Toyota have unveiled an incredible four-legged robot designed to transform mobility for wheelchair users. The device, called the “Walk Me”, draws inspiration from the agility of mountain goats—it has four mechanical legs that bend individually and adapt to uneven terrain, steps, and obstacles with ease. Each leg tests its environment and works in sync to keep the rider stable, while sensors, LiDAR, and voice commands guide its movement. A hidden battery allows up to 12 hours of use, and when it’s time to store it, the legs retract so the unit becomes compact enough to fit in most car boots. This innovation represents a major leap forward in assistive mobility, opening a new world of independence for people who previously were limited by wheels alone.
