Marathon Running in a Sari

A mother of two in the UK turned a personal passion into a powerful message of empowerment by breaking the Guinness World Record for the fastest marathon run in a sari. Madhusmita Jena, a special educational needs teacher from Greater Manchester, has already completed dozens of marathons, but recently took on the added challenge of running 26.2 miles in traditional sari—something that requires careful adjustments to avoid tripping and adds an extra layer of difficulty. She completed the Manchester marathon in 3 hours and 45 minutes, her fastest marathon time yet. Jena hopes her accomplishment will inspire women from all backgrounds to pursue fitness in whatever they feel comfortable wearing, while also raising money for equipment to support students with additional needs at her school. Her effort highlights how determination and representation can go hand in hand, using sport as a platform to challenge expectations and encourage inclusivity.
