Building 10,000 Beds in a Day

In a powerful show of community and compassion, more than 6,500 volunteers in North Carolina came together to build over 10,000 beds in just 24 hours for children who don’t have one of their own. Working in coordinated assembly lines inside the Charlotte Convention Center, volunteers cut, sanded, and assembled bed frames around the clock, turning raw materials into something life-changing. The effort was organized by the nonprofit Sleep in Heavenly Peace, which aims to address “bed poverty”—a widespread issue with more than 140,000 children in the U.S. living without a proper place to sleep. The finished beds are now being distributed to families across 36 states, giving thousands of kids a safe, comfortable place to rest—something that research shows is essential for their health, development, and success in school.
