Chicago is making it easier than ever for students to access educational resources by turning all public school IDs into library cards. Through a partnership between Chicago Public Schools and the Chicago Public Library, more than 315,000 students are now automatically enrolled in the system— giving them instant access to books, tutoring, and digital resources without needing to apply or provide extra paperwork. The initiative removes common barriers that previously prevented students from signing up for a library card, ensuring every child can take advantage of all 81 library branches across the city. Beyond borrowing books, students can now easily access homework help, research databases, and other learning tools using just their school ID. Overall, the program is a simple but impactful step toward educational equity— giving all students the tools they need to learn, grow, and succeed, regardless of their background.
