Kindness Citations

Police departments in several U.S. communities—including Spokane, WA; Tillamook, OR; and Hanover, PA—are partnering with the nonprofit Kindness 911 to highlight everyday acts of compassion through “Kindness Citations.” Issued by officers like Spokane’s “Kindness Cops” and Tillamook’s Officer Martinez and Chief Troxel, these citations honor people who step up in small yet meaningful ways—like a group of students who cleaned graffiti at a skate park, a local “cookie grandma” who brings treats to the station, and a woman who stopped to help after a car crash. Recipients can share their stories online, often inspiring donations to charities in their names. The initiative celebrates everyday kindness while helping to build trust and connection between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
