In Stornara, a once nearly abandoned village in Italy’s Puglia region, vibrant street art has sparked a remarkable revival. Since 2017, the annual Stramurales festival—founded by local artist Lino Lombardi—has turned the town into an open-air gallery, now featuring over 140 murals that celebrate its agricultural roots, migration stories, and community pride. The colorful transformation has made Stornara an Instagram sensation, drawing tourists from around the world. Since 2020, tourism revenue has increased by 25%, eight new businesses have opened, and young families are returning. Locals say the murals have “saved our community,” proving that art and storytelling can breathe new life into even the quietest corners of the world.
