Family Takes On University

A grandson and grandfather duo are changing their relationship from relatives to classmates as the two are enrolled in the same philosophy class at the University of British Columbia. Sam Cooper and 71-year-old Doug Manning walked into the first day of class together and are happy to have a familiar face in the lecture hall. Manning decided to re-enroll in university 40 years after graduating as a way to keep his mind sharp as he ages, and his 18-year-old grandson is pursuing a science degree. The professor of the Introduction to Logic and Critical Thinking course says this is the first time a multigenerational family has been part of the class. Manning and Cooper are navigating the challenges of starting at university together and can now be found working on homework, exploring campus, and making new friends.
