Every school day, a friendly cat named Kiki walks her housemate, 10-year-old Sonny, and his classmates to and from school in Glasgow, Scotland. Kiki has become the school’s beloved mascot—greeting students in the morning, keeping watch on the playground, and bringing joy to everyone she meets. Her daily devotion has even earned her a nomination as a finalist in the UK’s National Cat Awards under the “Connected Cats” category. Sonny adopted Kiki for his eighth birthday, and their bond has been palpable ever since. Teachers at Sonny’s school use Kiki to teach kindness and respect toward animals, and say that she brings endless smiles to the children and staff. Now, the community is rallying behind her, urging people to vote in hopes that “the cat who never misses a day of school” will be crowned the UK’s Cat of the Year. Learn more about the nominated cats here, and the winner will be crowned on September 24th at a celebration in London.
