Camp for Disaster Victims
A nonprofit called Project:Camp is helping children and families find stability after natural disasters by quickly setting up free day camps in affected communities. Following devastating wildfires near Spokane, Washington, which forced 60,000 people to evacuate, the organization partnered with local schools and businesses to provide hundreds of children with a safe place to spend their days while parents handled insurance claims, housing needs, and recovery. Campers were given a familiar routine filled with sports, games, arts and crafts, therapy dogs, and other activities designed to restore a sense of safety and normalcy after a frightening experience. Project:Camp has since grown to create 33 post-disaster camps across 10 states following hurricanes, wildfires, tornadoes, and other emergencies, giving kids the space to process what they've experienced while providing parents with valuable support to begin rebuilding their lives.
