Upcycled Goods Funding Hospice Center

Derian House Children’s Hospice in Chorley, Lancashire, relies on donated goods sold in its charity shop to help fund care for children with life-threatening conditions. When local resident Victoria Ford noticed that many damaged or unsellable items were being overlooked, she saw an opportunity. Using her skills as a trained fashion designer, Ford began transforming the unwanted donations into upcycled garments, accessories, and homegoods, creating one-of-a-kind pieces such as handbags crafted from inflatable mattresses and blouses reconstructed from tattered textiles. Her inventive designs have boosted interest and sales in the shop, generating additional funds for families facing serious childhood illness. Her work simultaneously promotes sustainability, proving that discarded materials can be reimagined into something beautiful while supporting an essential community cause.
