A couple in the UK turned their home into a small but extraordinary hedgehog hospital, rescuing and rehabilitating more than 500 hedgehogs since 2023. Many of the hedgehogs arrive after being injured by garden tools, hit by cars, or orphaned as babies when nests are disturbed. Others are brought in suffering from dehydration, illness, or malnutrition due to habitat loss. Once in their care, the animals are treated, fed, and nursed back to health in a space complete with a maternity ward, intensive care area, and even a “hogambulance” to collect those in need. When fully recovered, the hedgehogs are safely released back into the wild. The couple started the initiative after realizing there were no nearby rescue options for the declining species, which is now considered near threatened in the UK. Their dedication has not only saved hundreds of lives but also inspired their community to take action for local wildlife.
