A Texas couple who dreamed of becoming parents but were facing nearly $50,000 in adoption fees decided to take matters into their own hands — by turning their kitchen into a small bakery. After learning that medical complications meant they couldn’t carry a pregnancy, Pam and Doug Johse shifted their focus to adoption, only to be stunned by the high cost. Determined to start a family, they launched Loaves of Love — a baked goods brand that sells cookies, muffins, and other homemade treats online and locally in Texas. What started as a simple fundraiser quickly grew into a full community effort, with friends, neighbors, and strangers placing orders and spreading the word to help them reach their goal. Loves of Love highlights the prohibitive financial challenges many adoptive families face as well as the power of community support.
