Indian teacher Rouble Nagi has been awarded the $1 million Global Teacher Prize in recognition of her inspiring work bringing education to some of the country’s most underserved communities. Through her Rouble Nagi Art Foundation, she has transformed neglected spaces in urban slums into more than 800 open-air learning spaces, using colourful murals and creative teaching to help children learn literacy, science, math, history, and more. Her initiative has reached more than a million children across India, and she also mentors hundreds of volunteer and paid educators to extend the impact. Nagi plans to use the prize money to establish an institute offering free vocational training and expand her efforts to ensure more children have access to quality education. Her achievement highlights how innovation, compassion, and dedication can open doors for learners who might otherwise be left behind.
