Turning Train Tracks Into Solar Panels

Switzerland is testing an innovative way to generate clean energy by installing removable solar panels directly between active railway tracks. Developed by Swiss startup Sun-Ways, the system turns unused space along rail lines into a source of renewable electricity without taking up additional land. The specially designed panels can be installed and removed quickly for routine track maintenance, allowing trains to continue operating normally while the system produces power. If expanded across Switzerland's rail network, the technology could generate enough electricity to supply hundreds of thousands of homes. The pilot project has already attracted interest from several other countries, offering a promising new approach to increasing renewable energy production by making better use of existing infrastructure.
