For more than two decades, 83-year-old Vermont educator Nina Meyerhof has traveled to some of the world's most difficult places to deliver comfort to children affected by war, natural disasters, and other traumatic events—one teddy bear at a time. Inspired by the response she witnessed after the September 11 attacks, Meyerhof began collecting stuffed animals for children in crisis and has since distributed thousands of teddy bears in more than 120 countries through the nonprofit she founded, Children of the Earth. Most recently, she brought 2,000 teddy bears to children and families fleeing the war in Ukraine. Meyerhof says a simple teddy bear can provide children with a sense of comfort, security, and hope during unimaginably difficult moments. Even in her 80s, she remains committed to helping young people around the world, believing that small acts of kindness can have a lasting impact.
