Tiny Homes for Veterans

A bill called the HAVENS Act is under consideration in Congress, which would provide up to $100 million in funding to develop tiny home villages for veterans. The bill also requires that developers provide job training, mental health support, and social services to all residents. Over 33,000 veterans lack permanent housing, and the development of tiny home villages could decrease that number significantly. Organizations like Operation Tiny Home have already been constructing tiny homes around the country for homeless veterans, and the project has provided safe, reliable housing for thousands. Though it’s too soon to tell if the HAVENS Act will pass, the bill shows great promise in protecting veterans and addressing the housing crisis.
