New research offers hopeful news for those facing early-stage Alzheimer’s and mild cognitive impairment: lifestyle changes may slow or even reverse cognitive decline. In a small clinical trial, 71% of participants who followed a plant-based diet, exercised daily, meditated, and received emotional support showed stable or improved brain function, while most in the control group declined. A larger study of over 2,000 older adults also found that routines emphasizing sleep, heart health, diet, brain training, and social connection helped slow aging of the brain by up to two years. The findings highlight how simple, daily habits can play a powerful role in protecting brain health and restoring a sense of agency in the face of cognitive challenges.
