Pumpkin Paddle Winner

Duane Hansen recently jumped into the waters of the Missouri River to challenge a unique world record: longest distance traveled inside in pumpkin. Hansen cut out the inside of an 800-pound pumpkin, which he named Berta, to create space for him to kneel and hold a paddle. Hansen has a passion for pumpkin growing and carefully watched over Berta as it grew in his garden. Berta turned out to be a trusty vehicle, taking Hansen over 40 miles from the city of Bellevue to Nebraska City. Hansen navigated through rocks, sandbars, and waves to reach the record-setting finish line, his family cheering him on along the way.
