Man Completes Run Across Africa

Professional runner Russ Cook became the first person to run across the length of Africa after crossing the finish line over 10,000 miles away from where his journey began. The route took Cook across 16 countries, starting in South Africa and ending in Tunisia. Along the way he faced desert, rainforest, and mountain climates, as well as various sandstorms, injuries, and illnesses. Cook completed over 385 marathons in the 352 days he spent running across the continent. Over the course of his nearly year-long race, which began in April 2023, Cook raised over $800,000 for various charities. A group of inspired runners from around the world joined in on the final marathon, leading Cook to the finish line where a celebratory strawberry daiquiri awaited him.
