Pizza Shop Fighting Food Insecurity

A Michigan pizza shop is making it easier for anyone struggling with food insecurity to get a hot meal without having to ask for help. Rosco’s Pizza in Union, MI created a “meal wall” where customers can purchase an extra meal for someone in need and hang a prepaid voucher on the wall. Anyone who is hungry can then take one of the vouchers and exchange it for food, with no questions asked and no proof of need required. The idea gives customers a simple way to help their neighbors while allowing recipients to choose a meal with dignity and privacy. The wall has quickly become a community effort, with customers regularly paying meals forward and helping keep it stocked. The program offers a simple model for how a small business and its customers can work together to make sure more people in their community have access to a warm meal.
