Expanding Nonprofit Vet Care
A major new philanthropic initiative is aiming to make veterinary care more accessible for millions of pets and the people who love them. The Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation has committed $250 million over the next five years to launch Big Bet for Pets, which is the largest investment ever made to expand nonprofit community veterinary care in the United States. The foundation estimates that around 50 million dogs and cats currently lack access to routine, preventive, or lifesaving veterinary services, largely because of financial barriers. The initiative will fund community clinics, support veterinary care research, and help existing organizations expand their services. Its first programs include 250 grants of $10,000 for nonprofit veterinary providers and a separate $10 million fund for established clinics that are ready to grow. The long-term goal is to build a stronger veterinary safety net so fewer families have to choose between financial stability and getting their pets the care they need.
