Canadian ultramarathoner and new mom Stephanie Case recently won the grueling 100-km Ultra-Trail Snowdonia race in Wales, just six months after giving birth to her daughter, Pepper. Case was able to take the lead even after pausing at aid stations along the route to breastfeed her infant. Case, who is a human rights lawyer outside of her running career, was unaware that she was in the lead until she reached the finish line in 16 hours, 53 minutes, and 22 seconds. After years of infertility struggles, miscarriages, and IVF, this was her first race back in three years— and she was using it as preparation for a 100-mile race she’s doing in Colorado this summer. Case hopes that her journey shows other new mothers that parenthood doesn’t mean having to give up on personal dreams, and is looking forward to baby Pepper watching her cross many more finish lines in the future.
