Chile is in the process of creating a new national park at the southernmost tip of the Americas, often referred to as the “edge of the world.” The Cape Froward National Park will be a wildlife refuge to protect vast stretches of subantarctic forests, peatlands, glaciers, and coastline. The park will cover around 150,000 hectares of wild land and ocean-influenced ecosystem on the Brunswick Peninsula. Many species will benefit from the protection of the area, including whales, sea lions, orcas, penguins, deer, pumas, and more. Chilean authorities hope to finalize the park plans soon, adding this area to a broader collection of protected land in Patagonia and boosting both conservation and sustainable local development.
