Football Player’s Act of Kindness

A chance encounter between South Dakota State University football player Aydan Dautermann and 9-year-old Kamden Hanson has grown into a true friendship that began with a simple act of kindness. Dautermann first noticed Kamden sitting alone at a lemonade stand and felt compelled to return after practice. He bought a cup of lemonade and struck up a conversation, learning that Kamden had been struggling with loneliness and confidence. What followed was a consistent, meaningful bond—Dautermann began spending time with Kamden regularly, helping coach his youth football team, attending his games, and becoming a steady older-brother figure in his life. Their families grew close, and over time, Kamden became more outgoing and self-assured. After recently declaring for the NFL draft, Dautermann spent several months away training, keeping in touch with Kamden between practices and surprising him with an emotional reunion. What started as a brief moment of compassion has turned into a lasting friendship that both say will last a lifetime.
