Football Club Donates to Horses

Arsenal Football Club found an unexpectedly useful second life for its old match socks by donating them to Redwings Horse Sanctuary in England. The worn football socks are now being used to protect horses and donkeys recovering from surgery, keep flies away from sensitive legs, hold bandages in place, and prevent irritation from harnesses and equipment. Sanctuary staff say the donation made a major impact in their animal care and recovery efforts. The idea came from Arsenal's sustainability team, which wanted to reduce waste and find a practical use for equipment that could no longer be used on the field. With Redwings Sanctuary caring for more than a thousand animals, the donated socks provide a steady supply of protective coverings while keeping usable materials out of landfill. The project has become a simple but effective example of how sports organizations and animal charities can work together to create both environmental and animal welfare benefits.
