Cannabis and Weight Loss Study

Researchers at the University of California, Riverside have discovered that certain cannabis compounds may help improve metabolism and reduce obesity-related health problems without causing a psychoactive “high.” In a new study, scientists found that obese mice treated with a full cannabis extract lost weight and showed major improvements in blood sugar regulation and insulin function, while mice given only THC did not see the same metabolic benefits. Research is now underway to determine how and why cannabis allows the body to regulate glucose more effectively. UC Riverside scientists say these findings could lead to new, cannabis-based treatments for obesity and type 2 diabetes, though more trials will be needed first.
