Each morning in Boonah, Queensland, a dog daycare bus collects up to a dozen dogs and delivers them to IronBark DogPark, a thriving canine adventure park. Dog trainer Jo McVilly’s unique program not only makes dogs happy, it also creates work opportunities for young people living with disabilities or from at‑risk backgrounds. By working with the dogs, staff members with physical and mental challenges can build confidence, friendships, and gain skills for a lifetime career in animal care. From dog walking, to grooming, to training, the IronBark DogPark team learns about all aspects of animal care while having fun and creating a sense of belonging along the way. McVilly’s initiative nurtures community for both dogs and humans alike, making IronBark DogPark a place where everyone feels at home.
