Hurtigruten, a Norwegian cruise line, will make history later this month by sailing 2,500 miles round trip along Norway’s coast. The MS Richard With will travel from Bergen to Kirkenes and back— powered entirely by biofuel made from renewable waste cooking oil. The voyage marks the first time the company’s classic coastal route will run fully on biofuel, and the ship will also plug into shore power whenever possible to further cut emissions. MS Richard With’s climate-neutral journey is part of Hurtigruten’s long-term Sea Zero initiative, which aims for completely emission-free operations by 2030, and serves as a powerful example of how cleaner cruising can be achieved with existing ships through innovation and commitment to sustainability.
