Cancer-Fighting Frogs

Researchers have discovered a naturally occurring bacterium from the intestines of Japanese tree frogs that showed remarkable cancer-fighting potential in early laboratory studies. In mice with colorectal cancer, a single dose of the bacterium completely eliminated tumors while also activating the immune system to help prevent the cancer from returning. Unlike traditional treatments that can damage healthy cells, the bacterium specifically targeted tumor tissue and cleared from the body within days without causing significant side effects in the animals. Scientists believe the approach of directly attacking cancer cells while stimulating the body's natural defenses could lead to a new class of cancer therapies. While the research is still in the animal testing stage and much more work is needed, the findings are promising as the medical community searches for more effective and less toxic cancer treatments.
