Dylan Beard has his sights set on making the US Olympic track and field team for the 2024 Olympics in Paris this summer. When he’s not pushing himself to beat hurdling records on the track, Beard can be found at his day job— working behind the deli counter at a Walmart in North Carolina. Beard began getting Olympic buzz after his massive victory at the Millrose Games in February, where he set a personal record, record for the facility, and third-fastest time in the world in the 60-meter hurdles. As an unsponsored athlete, Beard is hoping to pay his own way to the Paris Olympics with money he has saved from working at Walmart. Until the official team is announced in the coming weeks, Beard will be spending his time training, practicing, serving Walmart customers, and dreaming of landing a place on the Olympic roster.
