Syria’s Mobile Library for Kids
A colorful mobile library is bringing books, creativity, and moments of joy to children in rural communities and displacement camps across Syria. The Mobile Cultural Bus was launched by Syria’s Ministry of Culture with support from volunteers to reach families who have little or no access to libraries, community centers, or creative activities. An old donated bus was transformed into a traveling educational space filled with books, art supplies, learning materials, and a puppet theater. During each visit, children can take part in storytelling, reading, drawing, crafts, games, and puppet shows, giving many their first opportunity to explore a library-like space. The project has already visited dozens of communities and reached thousands of children. With more than 2.5 million Syrian children currently displaced and out of school, organizers hope the program can provide opportunities for learning, imagination, and connection while giving children affected by war a chance to simply enjoy being kids.
