Student 3D Printing Dentures

A 22-year-old engineering student in Tennessee is using technology to restore smiles for people who might otherwise go without dental care. After volunteering with the nonprofit Remote Area Medical, which provides free medical and dental clinics in underserved communities, Connor Gibson taught himself how to design and produce custom 3D-printed dentures. His innovation dramatically reduced the time it takes to create dentures—from several months to just a few hours—allowing patients to receive life-changing dental care much more quickly. Working from a mobile denture lab equipped with 3D printers he helped secure through grants, Gibson has already provided thousands of free dentures to people in need across the country. He says the most rewarding part is seeing patients look in the mirror and smile with confidence for the first time in years. His work is helping make dental care more accessible while demonstrating how technology can be used to solve real-world problems and improve lives.
