Australians Protect Land Posthumously

Australians are increasingly choosing to leave a lasting environmental legacy by donating land and including conservation gifts in their wills. When landowners pass away, the native plants and wildlife on their property are protected through conservation agreements. In some cases, landowners choose to donate the property for preservation efforts, or leave financial gifts to fund habitat restoration and conservation in the area. Conservation groups say these efforts and donations have safeguarded thousands of acres of important ecosystems, created protected spaces for endangered species, and helped restore biodiversity across the country. The movement is a powerful way for ordinary people to contribute to environmental protection, ensuring that the landscapes and wildlife they care about will be preserved for future generations.
