Street Patrol Group Protects Women

A group of pink-jacket clad volunteers are on a mission to keep women in Newcastle safe. The all-female street patrol army, called Women’s Street Watch Newcastle, escorts women who are walking alone at night. WSWN started after the murder of two women in the area, Sarah Everard and Sabina Nessa, who both were attacked while out at night. The group has 50 volunteers who patrol the city, walk women to their destinations, and keep the community feeling safe. The group also partnered with a local cab company to offer free drives home to women who need a safe ride that is out of walking distance. WSWN hopes that the initiative will spread to cities everywhere to ensure every woman feels safe at night.
