Sensory Kits Aid Police

Police units in Ontario are now equipped with sensory kits to support better communication between police and those with autism or other sensory issues. The kits were supplied by the Algoma Autism Foundation and include notepads, markers, earmuffs, tinted glasses, and fidget toys. There are also picture charts to indicate how the person is feeling, what issue has occurred, and if they are hurt. The kits were designed to help those who are non-verbal or have sensory issues to feel safe with police amid overwhelming situations. Ontario police are now better equipped to handle on-scene communication, which can help defuse stressful scenarios, save lives, and encourage everyone involved to feel safe and supported.
