Pregnant Air Force Pilot Makes History

Major Lauren Olme and her husband Mark Olme met at the United States Air Force Academy and now both fly supersonic B-1 bombers in Texas for the Air Force. The couple is expecting their first child, but pregnancy hasn’t stopped Lauren from hitting the skies. She is one of few pregnant pilots to fly an ejection seat plane, and the first to hit supersonic speeds. Mark flew in an aircraft beside Lauren on the supersonic flight, and the couple was thrilled that their growing family was able to experience the moment together. Though the Air Force previously had strict rules that prevented pregnant women from flying, women are now allowed to fly into their second trimester.
