Hari Budha Magar recently became the first double amputee to summit the highest peak on every continent, completing the Seven Summits challenge with a final climb in Antarctica. The 46-year old veteran lost both of his legs while serving in Afghanistan 15 years ago, and has used mountaineering as a method to overcome the physical, emotional, and mental challenges associated with being an amputee. Magar eventually started tackling historic peaks such as Kilimanjaro, Everest, and Denali, often using specialized prosthetic legs and adaptive gear to traverse difficult terrain. Over the course of his Seven Summits adventure, Magar has been raising money for nonprofits serving veterans and those with disabilities. His achievement represents an extraordinary personal triumph over adversity, showing that determination can break barriers and expand what’s possible for people with disabilities and beyond.
