When best friends JoAnn MacQueen and Marlisa Mercer bought a lottery ticket in their hometown of Orillia, Canada, they never expected to win. Much to their surprise, the two cashed in on a million dollar ticket. Instead of pocketing the cash for themselves, they decided to use the money to give back to charitable organizations in their community. The pals donated to Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, the Salvation Army, and several animal charities like the Farley Foundation and Comfie Cat Shelter. After giving away the majority of their winnings, MacQueen and Mercer plan to split the remaining funds amongst family and friends.
