Reflect, a two-minute short film on Disney+, features Disney’s very first plus-sized character: a young ballerina named Bianca. Bianca struggles with her body image throughout the short film and has a hard time breaking away from the stereotypical tall and thin definition of a ballerina. Though Reflect is quite short and doesn’t include dialogue from Bianca, many are excited that Disney has taken a step in the right direction towards plus-sized representation. Reflect has started conversations on and offline about self-esteem, body confidence, and acceptance. Hopefully, the positive response will encourage Disney to create a feature length film with a plus-sized character soon.
