Bookbugs and Dragon Tales, a mom and pop bookstore in Norfolk, UK, was on its way to permanent closure after sales plummeted during the pandemic. As a last ditch effort, store owners Dan and Leanne Fridd set up a Crowdfunder campaign online. The couple hoped to raise money to keep their store open and do school literacy outreach across Norfolk. In a surprise twist, actor Russell Crowe stepped in to help. He donated $7,500 to fulfill the Crowdfunder campaign and tweeted about the bookstore to generate publicity. The Fridds say that since Crowe posted about Bookbugs and Dragon Tales, the store has been packed with customers everyday.
