In a powerful open letter, a formerly incarcerated man named Terrance "Face" Gangsta shares the advice he wishes he had received before spending 20 years in prison. At 16 years old, Halim was involved in criminal activities that led to a felony murder conviction, resulting in a 40-year-to-life sentence. While incarcerated, a prison staff member introduced him to literature, igniting a passion for reading and self-improvement. In his letter, he encourages kids to think before they act, value their futures, and understand that real strength comes from discipline and self-respect—not violence or crime. Halim pursued education while in prison, wrote eleven books, and became an advocate for juvenile justice reform. His transformation contributed to legislative changes in D.C., allowing for the resentencing of juveniles. Upon release after 22 years, Halim established a public speaking business, launched a fashion brand, and gained recognition as a visual artist, with his work commissioned internationally. His journey from prison to purpose shows that it’s never too late to change your path, and that sharing hard-earned wisdom can help others avoid the same fate.
