Donkey Raised by Two Moms

In a rare and heartwarming twist at Dalscone Farm in Dumfries, Scotland, a donkey foal named Solomon has found himself with not one, but two caring moms. After both pregnant donkeys, Star and Mary, unexpectedly gave birth on the same night—one delivering a healthy foal and the other tragically losing hers—both mothers bonded with the surviving baby. With no clear way to tell which donkey is the biological mother, farm staff observed an extraordinary connection form between the group. Solomon happily nurses from both and is cared for equally by the pair. Described as a “one in a million” occurrence, this unique family-of-three is being left just as they are. Solomon is healthy and happy being raised by two moms, and Dalscone Farm will continue to support the bonded group however they can.
