A bloodhound named Bo has been named the country’s Hero Dog by American Humane. The 18-month-old dog works with the Gastonia Police Department in North Carolina, specifically alongside Sergeant David Rowland. Bo has used his sense of smell to locate missing people in the area, including an 11-year-old autistic child and an elderly dementia patient, and even tracked down suspects in a robbery case. Bo is the first bloodhound the department has ever included, and he has already proven himself an invaluable member of the force despite joining only a year ago. Bo will be honored at the 14th Annual American Humane Hero Dog Awards gala in January, where his companion Sergeant Rowland will speak to the incredible impact Bo has had on their community.
