Girls Auto Clinic is an female-run repair shop in Pennsylvania that is challenging gender stereotypes in the auto industry. GAC offers typical car services like oil changes and tire rotations, as well as unique offerings like a mani-pedi. While GAC’s staff of “shecanics” works on a vehicle, customers can use the time to focus on self care at the “Clutch Beauty Clinic” inside the shop. GAC’s founder Patrice Banks opened the shop to prevent women from being ripped off by male mechanics. Knowing that women often have limited time to get their tasks done, Banks decided to integrate a nail salon into the shop to make multitasking easy and pampering more accessible. Banks also hosts car care education classes and mechanic workshops to help women learn repair techniques themselves.
