Steven Hoffen, a 15-year-old from New York City, has combined his passions for filmmaking, environmentalism, and social change to unite communities. The teen made a documentary film, “Growing Peace In The Middle East”, about the process of bringing Jewish and Arab women together in Israel to make hydroponic gardens. The documentary inspired Hoffen to start a nonprofit to continue using hydroponics as a method to help communities in need. Growing Peace has created hydroponic gardens and food pantries in Israel and New York City, and Hoffen hopes to expand to new areas of the world to provide nutritious food and improve the environment.
