Gold Coast University Hospital in Australia is one of the first in the world to experiment with an innovative procedure aimed to reduce symptoms associated with neurological conditions. A recipient of the procedure, Neville Waterstrom, hasn’t been able to drink from a glass of water for 35 years due to extreme tremors from a neurological disability. After undergoing the non-invasive procedure, which uses MRI technology to send thousands of ultrasound beams to specific areas of the brain, Waterstrom saw immediate results. Upon waking up, Waterstrom was able to drink from a glass, feed himself, and write on a piece of paper— simple tasks that he wasn’t able to do for decades. Gold Coast University Hospital is sharing their results with medical facilities around the world in an effort to bring this simple, life changing treatment to as many patients as possible.
